Preserving evidence

When the object is gone, the photograph remains.

This 2008 photograph documents the memorial at Peremozhne in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, commemorating Lemko/Rusyn families deported there in 1944–1946 and the villages from which they came.

You report that the monument was destroyed during the armed conflict in the Luhansk region in 2014, according to a reliable source. The archive can preserve the original photograph, transcribe its inscriptions and pair it with the 2015 photograph showing the monument already destroyed.

LEMKO.org is the historical and cultural archive. LemkoHUB is the current home for music—historic recordings, performers, festival music and audiovisual presentations brought together in a form today's visitors can readily watch and hear.

A website with its own history

Preserving Lemko heritage online since 1996.

LEMKO.org began when the public Web itself was still young. The older pages, file formats and designs preserved beneath this remastered entrance are part of that history. The goal of the redesign is not to erase them, but to make nearly three decades of accumulated material easier to discover.
