1965
The wedding recreated on film. Members of the New York Lemko community rehearsed and staged a traditional Lemko wedding at Lemko Resort in Monroe, New York.
Later
Photographs and film become archival evidence. LEMKO.org preserves photographs made during the production and documentation connected with the film.
Today
The story remains accessible. The surviving photographs, historical pages, recordings and modern digital presentations allow descendants to encounter a community preserving its traditions far from Lemkovyna.
Not a modern reconstruction from books
The people who created the film belonged to generations for whom Lemko wedding customs, language, music and social roles were still living memory. The production therefore records not only costumes and ceremony, but the way an immigrant community understood and transmitted its own traditions.
The surviving LEMKO.org documentation describes a production rehearsed over a long period and filmed during a weekend at the Lemko Resort. The historical film is approximately 1 hour 50 minutes long.
From the 78s to the film
The 1965 film belongs to a longer American Lemko story. More than three decades earlier, commercial records had already preserved a Lemko wedding cycle in sound. Heard together, the recordings and the later film show cultural continuity across generations of Lemko life in America.

A note about the date
Some older LEMKO.org gallery labeling refers to this collection as “1964.” For this modern feature, LEMKO.org uses 1965, consistent with the historical film catalog and later documentation. The older gallery label is retained as part of the archive rather than silently rewritten.
