The folklore ensemble Sarisan was founded in 1967 in the village of Velky, Saris near the district town of Presov in eastern Slovakia. Its
founders were rank-in-file lovers of folk art and folklore traditions
based on authentic folklore from eastern Slovakia.
The ensemble consists of three groups: the musical group, the singing
group and the dancing group. All three groups work together to foster
the folklore traditions of the Saris region.
The people of Spis, Saris, Abov, Zemplin and Uz often refer to themselves as "Vychodniare", in other words "The Easterners".
